Aldehyde C18 coconut, also known as gamma Nonalactone, is a fragrance material with a characteristic coconut scent. In nature, it occurs in small quantities primarily in fruits and flowers. It is a clear, colourless to light yellow liquid. The scent is a sweet, creamy coconut fragrance. In larger quantities, it is therefore mainly suitable for coconut fragrances and blends containing a coconut element. In smaller quantities, it is very versatile. It modifies floral scents, such as jasmine and champaca, but also fruit scents, such as peach. It pairs with almost anything containing vanilla or sandalwood, often even in small quantities. It is primarily a base note. Quite stable and non-discolouring in soap.
