Product description

Aldehyde C12 MNA is a fragrance material for use in, for example, perfumes or other cosmetics. It has a typical aldehyde scent: oily, waxy, but also citrus. The scent is strong and can be overpowering. Making a dilution of, for example, 10% can therefore be beneficial. Characteristic uses are in aldehydic fragrances and for enhancing citrus. You usually use a trace amount of this substance in the fragrance composition, sometimes slightly more. In aldehydic fragrances, you use this for the special aldehyde effect. In citrus fragrances, it restores the natural freshness that the essential oil no longer possesses. In perfumes, it is primarily a top note in terms of effect, but a base note in terms of evaporation. It is stable in a surprisingly large number of products, including soap and deodourant. A 10% solution can be made with all common solvents. 96% alcohol is preferred, as this promotes the stability of the aldehyde. Aldehyde C12 MNA is a colourless to light yellow liquid at room temperature. Its purity is at least 97% when we receive it. The substance is sensitive to oxygen from the air and also spontaneously converts into other substances (trimers). Consequently, the 97% purity is quickly reduced. In this case, that does not always matter much: the scent becomes slightly less strong, but the other products to be expected are not more allergenic, irritating, or otherwise more dangerous. Furthermore, no disturbing odours or solids are formed. Nevertheless, we recommend stocking for no more than 6-12 months and adhering to the expiration date as much as possible. The substance occurs in nature, but the synthetic version is used for fragrance purposes. In ordinary chemical terms, this aldehyde is called 2-methylundecanal; however, in perfumery, the name Aldehyde C12 MNA is common. C12 because it contains 12 carbon atoms, and MNA stands for methyl nonyl acetaldehyde, another alternative designation for this substance.
