Product description
Oakmoss absolute is a fragrance extract used in products such as perfumes and air fresheners. It possesses a distinctive, unique scent. For this reason, it has its own fragrance category, "moss", which includes very few substances. Its scent can be described as a combination of animalic, tobacco, and green notes, alongside hints of seaweed, ambergris, and spices. It is an almost essential ingredient in chypre and fougère perfumes but also pairs well with spicy and green fragrances. It is also used in leather, woody, and marine fragrances, as well as in some floral perfumes. Due to its high allergenic potential, it is used only in very low concentrations, rarely exceeding 1% of the fragrance composition, and is therefore often used in diluted form. In its pure state at room temperature, oakmoss absolute is a green-brown paste; when diluted to 5% in DPG, it appears as a dark-coloured liquid. The substance has a long shelf life. As an absolute, it is produced using specific solvents, such as hexane or alcohol, which are subsequently removed from the extract as thoroughly as possible. The raw material is the lichen
Evernia prunastri
(L.) Ach. (oakmoss). This species occurs naturally across large parts of Europe, particularly in the south. IFRA has restricted the use of oakmoss to very low levels and has also set limits on the maximum concentration of its most allergenic constituents: atranol and chloroatranol. Our oakmoss complies with these IFRA standards.
