Product description

Sweet almond oil is a fatty oil used in cosmetics as a conditioning ingredient in, for example, creams, bath oil, and rich skin serums. It can replenish the skin's lipid layer, thereby supporting the skin's barrier function. Additionally, the skin feels smoother. In a massage oil, it can serve as the bulk ingredient. Sweet almond oil can often be mixed directly with other ingredients in anhydrous products. Heating in a water bath may be necessary if the mixture contains solid substances. In creams and other emulsions, almond oil is applied in the oil phase. In principle, almond oil can be used up to 100% in cosmetics. Almond oil is suitable for all skin types, but especially for dry skin. The oil does not feel too greasy (heavy) compared to many other types of oil, but neither does it feel too light, which is why it is a very popular oil. It is a clear, colourless to yellowish-brown liquid. Vegetable oil can become (partially) solid, especially during the cold season. As a result, the oil appears cloudy, containing solid particles in the form of lumps or long strands. Often, allowing the oil to reach room temperature is sufficient; sometimes, it is necessary to heat the oil in a bain-marie for a while. In general, however, the oil is completely liquid. The oil has a slightly greasy smell. We have chosen a refined oil; consequently, the smell is not too strong, the colour is not too dark, and the shelf life is reasonably long. In this case, refining means, among other things, partial decolourization with diatomaceous earth and partial deodourization by steam. Due to refining, some of the vitamins and other active ingredients in the oil are lost; however, in unrefined oil, these substances decline in concentration more rapidly. Consequently, if you compare both types (refined and unrefined) a few months after production, the refined oil usually contains more vitamins and active ingredients. Moreover, unrefined oil often still contains significant pesticide residues, which are absent or virtually absent in refined oil. Not to be confused with bitter almond oil. Bitter almond oil is the essential oil of the bitter almond. Although shelf life increases considerably due to refining, we recommend adding a few drops of Tocopherol (Vitamin E) per liter of oil to further limit oxidation. Sweet almond oil is extracted from plants (Prunus dulcis (Mill.) D.A.Webb). The cultivation of these trees requires a large amount of (irrigation) water. Refining consumes energy but results in a longer shelf life. It is fully biodegradable in the environment.
