Product description
Rhodinol is a fragrance material made from certain types of essential oil, in this case citronella oil. Through distillation, a portion of the oil is separated from the rest. This separated portion is called rhodinol and consists primarily of geraniol and citronellol. Consequently, it is a natural fragrance according to the ISO 9235 standard. Rhodinol ex Citronella is a clear to light yellow liquid. The scent is reminiscent of rose, although it also has some citronella aspects. It is primarily a heart note. Rhodinol is used wherever you would normally use geraniol and citronellol, so for floral scents, particularly rose and geranium, obviously especially where you only want to use natural fragrances. Stable in soap. In older books in particular, rhodinol is often used where nowadays one would use citronellol and/or geraniol. Keep two things in mind regarding this. The first point is that, at the time, rhodinol had to be used for high-quality fragrances (more expensive perfumes, for example) because synthetic citronellol and geraniol of good fragrance quality were not available. Nowadays, that is no longer a problem; in many cases, you can replace rhodinol with a mixture of the synthetic substances. Furthermore, bear in mind that rhodinol made from geranium oil was usually used. This is still produced; however, it is so much more expensive than rhodinol from citronella that nowadays there will be few cases where you would prefer this more expensive variant. Dilution is not necessary; the scent is not excessively strong, and the substance lends itself to higher dosages.
