Product description
Aldehyde C9, also known as nonanal, is a fragrance material used in products such as perfumes and scented candles. It possesses the characteristic fresh yet oily and green citrus scent of aldehydes. The scent is quite strong, so it is advisable to use a dilution of, for example, 10%. If you prepare this in alcohol, you have the advantage that the shelf life of the aldehyde improves. Typical uses include rose and citrus accords. You usually use a maximum of 0.5% of this substance in the fragrance composition. It combines well with other aldehydes, but also with many floral scents. It adds a touch of natural freshness. Some perfumers view it as a top note because it has the most effect in the top notes. Others consider it a base note, because the scent is perceptible right down to the base. For an aldehyde, its stability is reasonable; it is also reasonably usable in soap. In scented candles, it primarily has a good cold throw; it produces little fragrance while the candle is burning. Aldehyde C9 is a colourless to light yellow liquid at room temperature. The purity is at least 97%. The substance does not have a very long shelf life; we recommend replacing it approximately once a year. Dissolving it in alcohol extends the shelf life. The substance occurs in nature, but the synthetic version is used for use as a fragrance.
